Northwest Community Action Partnership and Community Action Agencies across the nation will be celebrating National Community Action Month in May. This annual commemoration recognizes the significant impact Community Action Agencies make every day, fighting poverty on the local level.
The Community Action Partnership in Washington, D.C. designates May as National Community Action Month. National Community Action Month calls attention to poverty-related problems and the initiatives Community Action Agencies implement to address them.
"Community Action Month has several purposes-we are highlighting our successes, but we also want to call attention to the ever growing problems of poverty," said Lorye McLeod, Executive Director. "We want to show local residents that poverty is, unfortunately, a very real part of life for some families, but with programs like ours, individuals and families can achieve financial stability."
Northwest Community Action Partnership is a beacon of hope for Box Butte, Dawes, Cherry, Sioux, and Sheridan counties low income individuals and families. In honor of Community Action Month the agency will showcase programs and promote the first annual Campaign for Poverty Relief. Northwest Community Action Partnership's Campaign for Poverty Relief is also during the month of May. Donations have been received; however, the donation level is lower than expected. Northwest Community Action Partnership would like to remind community residents to please donate to the Campaign of Poverty Relief to ensure services are being provided to our low income individuals and families and would also like to thank those who have supported our efforts.
"With Foreclosures, rising housing prices, and other economic concerns more and more people are worried about their financial futures, and the amount of families experiencing economic insecurity is increase," said Don Mathis, President/CEO of the Community Action Partnership. These agencies have seen what works, what doesn't, and have used this knowledge to develop solutions and strategies to help low-income individuals and families achieve economic security. We want to see these strategies serve as models for implementation on the national level."
