Mary Margie Hitchcock, 87, died Monday, January 30, 2012 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
She was born the fifth of six children on February 5, 1924 in rural Dawes County, Nebraska in the family home to Algot Nicholas and Mary (Lemons) Newblom.
She graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1941. On September 23, 1941 she married Dorman Clark Hitchcock in Hay Springs, Nebraska. Together they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Following Dorman's time in military service they lived at Hay Springs and moved to Alliance in 1954. She worked at Hesteds, MorValu Stamp Store, the Slagle Clinic and the Abbott Bank.
Margie was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, quilting, gardening, watching birds out the kitchen window, dancing, traveling to all fifty states, Canada and the Caribbean, and riding a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon at age 69.
She is survived by her husband, Dorman Hitchcock of Alliance; sons, Bruce (Sherry) Hitchcock of Alliance and Randy (Kolinda) Hitchcock of Glendale Heights, IL; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Hitchcock of Denver, CO; and her sister, Jean Hitchcock of Aurora, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christine Hitchcock of Omaha, NE, Edward Hitchcock of Alliance, NE, Ammie Bauer of Alliance, NE, Denise Hitchcock of Evans, CO, Julie (Lynn) Louden of Bridgeport, NE, Bob (Vanessa) Hitchcock of Show Low, AZ, Lacey (Bruce) Cordell of Alliance, NE, and Jeremy (Lacy) Hitchcock of Hemingford, NE; and her great grandchildren, Ashlynn Bauer, Kaylynn Bauer, Jayce Bauer, and Jayden Bauer of Alliance, NE, Deion Hitchcock, Brody Hitchcock, and Luke Louden of Bridgeport, NE, Gage Cordell, and Kyah Cordell of Alliance, NE, Lily Hitchcock and Lincoln Hitchcock of Show Low, AZ, and Keagan Hitchcock and Emma Hitchcock of Hemingford, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Dennis Hitchcock, brothers Leonard, Darold, and Vernon Newblom, and her sister Lola Titus.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Charles Kathurima M. officiating.
