March 3, 2008 -- When the Alliance Bulldogs boy's basketball team meets Lincoln Pius X this Thursday morning at the Devaney Center, it will mark the Bulldogs 12th trip to the tournament since the end of World War Two, and their first trip to Lincoln since claiming the Class B state title in 2001.
Prior to the 2001 tournament, KCOW's Kevin Horn produced a short feature spotlighting Alliance's misfortune of not making it to a state tournament championship game. Of course, a few days later (March 10, 2001) Alliance won their first ever state basketball title. The Bulldogs defeated South Sioux City 61-33, Lincoln Pius X 84-63, and Beatrice 53-50 to claim the 2001 title.
