An Alliance system-wide power outage will occur on Monday, November 24 beginning at 1 p.m. The outage is necessary for the Electric Department to replace a 115,000 volt potential transformer and for Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) to make permanent repairs to address the mechanical problems experienced during the Alliance power failure that occurred last January 8.

Monday's outage is expected to last up to three hours.

Due to the outage, the Alliance Public Schools will dismiss early on Monday.  Alliance High School will follow a half-day schedule and dismiss at 12:35 p.m.  The Alliance Middle School will also follow a half-day schedule and dismiss at 11:59 a.m. Emerson Elementary will dismiss for the cross-town bus departure at 11:20 a.m.

Grandview Elementary will dismiss for the cross-town bus departure at 11:30 a.m. The Early Childhood Center will meet in the morning only and dismiss at 11:15 a.m.

Adult Basic Education will close at noon.

Lunch will not be served at any of the Alliance Public School buildings on Monday.

The Alliance St. Agnes Academy will dismiss Monday, Nov. 24 at 12 Noon.

Western Nebraska Community College's Alliance campus will be closed Monday, November 24 from 1-5 pm due to the planned city-wide power outage. The campus will be open during its regular hours in the morning and evening after 5pm.  Classes that normally meet on Monday afternoons from 1-5 pm will not be held on the 24th. Classes starting after 5 pm will take place if the power is fully restored.

The Box Butte County Courthouse in Alliance will close at 1 p.m. Monday.

Becky McDonald, general manager of Nebraska Total Office in Alliance say, "prior to the planned Alliance power outage, we recommend that electronic equipment, such as personal computers, facsimile machines, copiers, printers, cash registers and other sensitive electronic equipment be shut down and if at all possible, unplugged from power receptacles. This precaution will help to avoid the risk of possible damage that could result from voltage fluctuations that may occur. Power surges caused by resuming power may damage equipment."
