Alliance received three honors Friday night as Nebraska's community volunteers and leaders celebrated their efforts at successfully promoting and encouraging economic and community development as part of the 47th Annual Nebraska Community Improvement Program (NCIP) awards banquet in Kearney.
The event capped the Third Annual Governor's Conference on Rural Development.
NCIP awards reflect outstanding community and economic development projects.
This year's 2010 NCIP Special Award Recipients are:
The Youth Leadership for Outstanding Community Service Award recognizes outstanding youth who develop and lead projects and peers for the betterment of their communities. Following are this year's youth leader awardees in their respective NCIP population categories:
Class IV Awards: (Population 4,001 and more) Sydney Swanson, Alliance for her work in organizing a donation drive that collected winter coats for less fortunate children in Box Butte County. Swanson, the daughter of Jim and Kathi Swanson of Alliance, is a 2010 graduate of Alliance High School. She is now attending college in Colorado.
Tourism Promotion & Development -- Class IV: Alliance; Dobby's Frontier Town
Arts & Humanities -- Class IV: Alliance; Knight Museum and Sandhills Center.
Alliance also submitted the Main Street Players Children's programs and State Veterans' Cemetery for honors consideration. However, those two projects did not receive awards.
